Sixth annual golf outing to benefit Neponset Park

By The Kewanee Voice    August 17, 2026
Hidden Lake Country Club will the the site of the golf outing fundraiser to benefit the Neponset park.

The sixth annual Neponset Park Improvement Golf Outing fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Hidden Lake Country Club, rural Sheffield.

Now is the time to get a group of four together to enjoy a round of golf on a beautiful course while supporting improvements in the Neponset community.

The Neponset Park Improvement Committee formed in 2019 to begin planning and fundraising for improvements to Scott Park, including a veterans’ memorial, a park pavilion for picnic tables, outdoor restroom facilities as well as other park projects.

Members of the committee are Dave Mueller, Jon Pickering, Mandy Donovan, Gail Pickering, Al Corwin, Samantha Long and Marty Golby. The veteran’s memorial was completed in May of 2021 and was dedicated on Memorial Day of 2021.

The veterans’ memorial was completed several years ago.

Fundraising is ongoing for the park pavilion and restrooms (which are currently being completed) just south of the Neponset Community Building. The existing park bandstand building is also currently being refurbished. The community building and the adjacent Scott Park are popular, especially in the summer months when many families are hosting their family gatherings and reunions.

The golf tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Hidden Lake with a shotgun start. Participants are encouraged to sign up ahead of time, but are also welcome to register the morning of the tournament. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.

The cost is $250 per four-person team ($62.5 per person), which covers golf fees, a cart, four mulligans and two drive-extending throws, with a lunch following directly after at Hidden Lake. The tournament will follow a preferred-ball format.

Teams may pre-register by contacting Al Corwin at 815-303-0200, or they may register the morning of the tournament.

Additionally, there will also be 50/50 raffles, several fun activities on a few holes and door prizes.

If any individual or business is interested in sponsoring a hole for $50 per hole, or if you have any questions about the tournament, please contact Al Corwin at the number listed above, or Mandy Donovan at 309-502-9050.

If you would like to contribute to this project, this is how:

Donations may be dropped off to Community State Bank in Neponset, or funds may be transferred from an individual’s account to the Neponset Park Improvement account at Community State Bank. They may also be mailed to CSB, 120 W. Commercial St., Neponset.
