Labor Day in Kewanee won’t be spent on chores or quiet afternoons. On Monday, the festival turns its attention to the youth in a full‑on celebration of kids as Hog Days presents Kids Day in the PNB parking lot.

Kids Day is built for maximum fun. Young visitors can wander from booth to booth, discovering something new at every turn.

Draw Me Bill will be on hand creating caricatures that turn kids into cartoon stars. The Kewanee Police and Fire Departments will host a friendly meet and greet, giving children a chance to explore gear, ask questions and maybe even try on a helmet or two. Shadowland Serpentry will bring its reptile booth, offering a close look at scaly, slimy friends. And for kids who love a little competition, the kiddie tractor pull promises plenty of cheers and bragging rights.

Kids looking for bigger thrills will have two new attractions to try this year. A mechanical pig ride which will challenge riders to hang on as the pig spins and bucks. There will also be a big, bright bounce house, giving kids a fun and safe way to burn off energy.

Face painting will add even more color to the day. Artists from The Painted Cupcake will transform children and even parents into butterflies, superheroes, tigers or whatever their imaginations dream up.

Miller’s Petting Zoo will be set up at Second and Tremont streets, giving families a chance to meet all kinds of barnyard favorites. It’s the kind of stop where tiny hands reaching out to pet soft noses are guaranteed.

Kids’ Day is sponsored by Great Dane, and every activity is free. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at the People’s National Bank parking lot, turning the space into a lively mini festival made just for kids.
