The Jim Markum Vintage Band kicked off this summer’s “Concert in the Park” series Thursday with a collection of vintage jazz numbers.

This will be the 30th season of the free concerts in Veterans Park, according to Mark Mikenas, executive director of the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber organizes the concert series each year. Corporate sponsors include Lincoln School Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Baird; Arcadia, operators of nursing homes in the area; and State Bank of Toulon.

The Kewanee High School FFA offered food and drink, and Arcadia distributed free cookies to the crowd.

Music lovers will be able to bring lawn chairs to the park at 6:30 on Thursday evenings through Aug. 20.
