
The Kewanee Boiler Girls split a doubleheader at Northeast Park last week with Princeton, losing the first game 8-1 but winning the nightcap 6-4.
In the first game, Dani Jo Currier collected three hits in four at bats. Currier singled in the first, third inning and sixth innings.
Princeton got on the board in the first inning on an error on Kewanee.
Currier tied the game at 1 in the top of the third following a bunt single by Remy Hicks.
Princeton jumped into the lead in the bottom of the third scoring four runs fueled by two doubles.
A solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth increased the lead for Princeton.
Lyric Duytschaver stepped in the circle first for Kewanee and allowed seven hits and five runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out none and walking one.
Kewanee amassed 11 hits in the game. Hicks led Kewanee with one run batted in. The left fielder went 1-for-4 on the day.
Macee Pickering collected two hits for Kewanee in four at-bats. Currier ran wild in the base paths, stealing four bases.
Kewanee got redemption in the second game, winning 6-4.
The Boiler Girls scored first in the first inning. Currier led off the inning with a hard hit to left field and scored on a ground out by Hicks.
Kewanee led 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning, as a grand slam to left field by the Princeton center fielder gave the Tigers the lead, 4-1.
Kewanee flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Pickering on an 0-2 count that drove in three.
Kalleigh Gale earned the win for Kewanee. The pitcher gave up five hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking one. The Princeton starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and six runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking one.
Pickering provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Kewanee with three runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day.
Currier set the tone at the top of the lineup, with two hits in four at-bats. Kieryn Abernathy and Currier each stole multiple bases for the Boiler Girls.
Kewanee plays at home on Monday against Newman Central Catholic.
