Boiler boys finish in second place at meet

The Kewanee Boilermakers boys track team placed second at the Howard-Monier Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, highlighted by several strong individual and relay performances.

Kewanee opened the meet with a victory in the 4×800 relay, as Hunter Vancil, Lain Taylor, Michael Bermudez, and Damareon Thomas combined for a winning time of 9:11. 

Chris Crowe led the individual efforts with two first-place finishes, clearing 6’6” in the high jump and leaping 21’5” to win the long jump. 

Dontel Wommack also earned two wins for the Boilermakers, taking first in the triple jump (37’2”) and the pole vault (11’).

The 4×100 relay team of Jesus Del Toro, Kamani Winters, Adriann Bermudez and Brady Motley placed second with a time of 47.83. 

Kewanee’s 4×400 relay team — Anthony Padilla, Vancil, Taylor, and Thomas — also finished second, clocking in at 3:48. 

Several athletes added runner-up finishes individually. Thomas took second in the 400 meters (57.09), while Vancil placed second in the 800 (2:10.57). 

Malik Diop earned second in the discus (123’), and Padilla finished second in both the 110 hurdles (15.96) and 300 hurdles (45.23).

The 4×200 relay team of Crowe, Del Toro, Padilla, and Adriann Bermudez finished third in 1:37.75. Additional third-place individual finishes came from Del Toro in the 110 hurdles (18.09), Crowe in the 200 (24.40), Evan Cleaver in the 300 hurdles (47.35), Michael Bermudez in the 400 (58.84), Taylor in the 800 (2:17.35), and Paul Marcus in the 1600 (5:31).

Kewanee will return to action Friday at the Paul Parker Invitational at Riverdale.
