Winter coats made an unwelcome appearance Saturday morning as families bundled up for the Kewanee Park District’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at Windmont Park.

The hunt is done for the older kids as the families make their way up to the parking lot area.

The event began at 10 a.m., with temperatures hovering around 31 degrees. Sunshine helped, but the sharp chill likely kept a few families at home. Even so, a solid crowd turned out, filling the park with kids eager to dash across the grass in search of brightly colored eggs.

Kids bundled up but came out to get candy and meet the Easter Bunny at Saturday’s event.

Park commissioners and volunteers helped organize the hunt, which was open to children ages 10 and younger. Instead of candy‑filled eggs scattered across the field, participants collected empty plastic eggs and traded them in for a basket of treats at the end — a system that kept the hunt moving quickly and made sure each participant got their share.

The joy of the hunt!
