Pet of the week: Meet Louise, ready for a fresh start

At only a year old, Louise has already lived quite a life. She arrived at the shelter at the beginning of October with a group of her siblings after their mother passed away and the litter was left outdoors. They were brought to the pound as strays and later transferred to the shelter.

Once staff evaluated the group, they discovered that little Louise was expecting a litter of her own. She went on to raise her kittens at Black Hawk College and, despite being so young herself, proved to be an excellent mom to four kittens born on Halloween. Whether she considered that a trick or a treat, we’ll never know, but she had plenty of help from the Black Hawk vet tech students, who quickly became her best friends.

Louise is a playful, energetic cat who weighs just eight pounds but has no trouble leaping from kennel to kennel and entertaining herself with her many toys. She’s a good eater, especially fond of canned food and Temptations treats. She isn’t much of a fan of other cats, though she doesn’t mind watching them from a comfortable distance.

Now that she’s completed her duties as a mom, Louise is ready for a home of her own. She has been fully vetted — spayed, vaccinated for rabies, microchipped, flea‑treated and dewormed. She loves attention, and if you wave a toy in front of her, she’s more than happy to join in and chase it around.

If your home feels a little too quiet and you’re looking for some excitement, give Louise a chance. She won’t disappoint and will definitely keep you on your toes. Plus, she’s so darn cute.

Stop by the Kewanee Humane Society during business hours to meet Louise.
