On Tuesday, volunteers at the Kewanee Food Pantry continued on with the job of feeding the community in spite of the news of the sudden death of long-time food pantry director, Lisa Janey.
Janey began serving as the director in 2013 and often said that she couldn’t ever retire because she was afraid it would be difficult to find a replacement. Janey has been the face of operations and is usually the first person people see when they arrive at the pantry.
On the pantry Facebook page, volunteers announced her death publicly, stating “It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of Lisa Janey’s passing.
“She served as director of our Kewanee Food Pantry since 2013 and assisted countless area families over the years. . . we will remember her for the constant dedication, compassion and genuine care she showed our community and its residents.”
Janey was 68 when she passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Rux Funeral Home. Memorials should be directed to the Kewanee Food Pantry.
The board of directors for the pantry announced on Tuesday that the food pantry would temporarily close on Thursday, Feb. 19 but reopen with normal business hours on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
