A complete overhaul of the Chautauqua Park shelter house is to start soon, and park officials hope the work will be done by the start of summer.
The city issued permits for building, electrical and plumbing work valued at a total of $125,000 for the work.

Andrew Dwyer, executive director of parks, said MSI Construction was the only bidder for the project. Dwyer said the total cost will probably come to around $150,000.
The work will address a variety of issues with the shelter house:
— Electrical and lighting upgrades are planned.
— New water lines will be installed.
— Restrooms will be upgraded to be like the one at the new Liberty Park splash pad.
— New kitchen appliances will be installed.
— Epoxy flooring will be installed.
— Doors will be widened.
Dwyer said the Chautauqua shelter house will be the first one to be rehabilitated. Upgrades are also in the works for shelter houses in Windmont and Northeast parks.
He said the shelter house work is the latest in a series of improvements made in local parks in the last few years. These include the new pavilion at the Baker Park clubhouse, upgrades to the tennis courts at Windmont and the splash pad.
Late last year the park board approved architect’s plans for a major expansion of the Baker clubhouse. That project will include building a large dining room east of the existing clubhouse.
