Despite leading at halftime, the Wethersfield Flying Geese varsity boys fell by 69-39 to the visiting Morrison Mustangs Friday night.
The game began with Morrison getting the ball. Following a two-pointer for the visitors, Kruz Galbraith pulled a two-pointer to kick-start the Geese.
The first half was an intense battle. The score went back and forth between the two teams, but eventually settled with Morrison holding a 10-9 lead over the Geese at the end of the first period.

The Geese reclaimed the lead by halftime, with a score of 25-21.
During halftime, Wethersfield High School held a half-court shooting competition. Anyone who paid a dollar got the chance to shoot and attempt to make one basket from the half-court line to win a free pizza from Cerno’s Bar & Grill.
All proceeds from this went to the family of Jordan Ball as they navigate through this extremely difficult journey.

The Geese entered the court with confidence to start the second half. Following a two-pointer by the Mustangs, Drew Hornback splashed a three-pointer.
As the third period progressed, it was apparent that the Geese lost their momentum, ending the period with a score of 46-30, Mustangs in the lead.
The Geese battled through this game with the best of their abilities, but they took an unfortunate 69-39 loss. As the game concluded, the Geese still held their heads high and kept pushing despite the scoreboard.
The leading scorers for Wethersfield were senior Hornback with 18, junior Galbraith with 9 and junior Colin Hodge with 7.
Galbraith stood out once again, with seven rebounds. Sophomore Alejandro Garcia had a good night as well with three assists and two steals.
The varsity game followed a JV contest in which Wethersfield won big, by a score of 61-16.
Following the JVs’ victory at the previous game against DePue, the players entered this game confident and determined, and the stadium was electric. On and off the court tonight, the Geese held great attitudes.
The Geese wasted no time scoring against the Mustangs. They had secured this victory the second they got possession of the ball.
Sophomore Adrian Cepeda scored 5 points during the first period alone. The end of the first half was already a positive lead for the Geese, with a score of 13-5.
The Geese did not hold back, scoring 23 more points in just the second period. By halftime, the Geese already had a phenomenal 36-10 lead.
Finally, the Geese captured a dominant win, with a final score of 61-16. The Geese played this game with their hearts and were able to walk off the court as winners.
The lead scorers for this game were freshman Brayden Taylor with 11, freshman Isaiah Cornish with 10 and sophomore Dane Ross with 8.
