Kewanee School Supt. Rebecca Baney has received the District 1 Illinois Agricultural Education Advocacy Award, presented by the Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education (ILCAE).

Baney was nominated by Kewanee High School agriculture teacher Kindra Callahan in recognition of her “outstanding leadership, support and advocacy for agricultural education opportunities for students across the district,” according to a news release from ILCAE.

“This prestigious award honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to strengthening agricultural literacy, expanding student learning pathways and supporting partnerships that benefit the Illinois agricultural community,” the news release said.

The award was presented Wednesday at the ILCAE annual meeting held at Central IL Ag in Atlanta, Ill.

At the meeting, State Rep. Dan Swanson recognized Baney’s efforts to enhance agricultural programming and champion students’ efforts with her engaging support and advocacy.

“Agricultural education remains a cornerstone of our district’s commitment to inspire the mind and honor the heart of every Boilermaker who walks our hallways,” Baney said. “By participating in agriculture programs, students develop essential values, leadership abilities and a service-minded work ethic that benefits the broader community.

“I am honored to receive this recognition and deeply grateful to the Kewanee Community Unit School District 229 Board of Education, the teachers, the students and the community partners who make this work possible. They are #simplythebest229,” she added.
