It was an evening of celebration at Monday’s Kewanee School Board meeting.
The board honored Kewanee High School FFA students for accomplishments they’ve made this fall.
As is the board’s custom, they passed resolutions noting those accomplishments and offering the board’s congratulations.
KHS Principal Amanda Tidwell read the resolutions, after which the honored students went to the Petersen Auditorium stage to shake hands with each board member and have their photos taken by Supt. Rebecca Baney and a few people in the audience.
Honors went to:
— Kaleigh Gale and Remy Hicks for advancing in FFA state competition.
— Rachel DeRycke, Abigail DeSchepper and Emma Evans for earning the FFA’s American Degree.
— And the entire KHS FFA membership for their chapter earning the Three Star Award.

Students weren’t the only ones saluted by the board.
Baney reported that Tim Atwell, who has been the KHS athletic director for the past 19 years, has been named District 4 Athletic Directors Association as Athletic Director of the Year.
Atwell is retiring at the end of the school year, and Baney joked that maybe his earning the award means he’ll have to stay on for another year.
Baney also announced that pre-kindergarten programs at Lyle and Neponset schools had been recognized for the work of their pre-kindergarten programs.
Also Monday, among numerous personnel actions was accepting the resignation of Bree Cinnamon as high school volleyball coach.
