Come Monday, workers at Great Dane will learn their fate.

The company recently announced to employees that a layoff of as many as 150 workers could be possible, according to a source familiar with the matter. Later management told employees that some employees could be moved to second shift work to avoid being laid off. Officials told employees that the layoff will be for an indeterminate amount of time, the source said.

The Kewanee Voice reached out to plant officials on Friday for confirmation, but the phone calls weren’t returned.

In March of this year, Great Dane informed workers that voluntary layoffs were planned. At that time, a source told the Voice that the layoffs were due to a loss of a large account and tariffs that increased the cost of raw materials for building trailers.

Great Dane on Kentville Road is Kewanee’s largest employer and manufactures trailers that are used for transporting goods across various industries.
