Due to rising costs, Henry County Public Transportation will increase its fares beginning Nov. 1.
The public transportation service, which is a program of Abilities Plus, announced these increases:
The fare increase “will help offset rising costs related to fuel, maintenance and wages, while supporting ongoing service enhancements such as fleet modernization and accessible vehicles, route coverage and service frequency and technology upgrades,” according to a news release from Abilities Plus.
The change is designed to ensure continued investment in safe, reliable and accessible transportation for the community. This is the first fare adjustment since Henry County Public Transportation’s inception in 2008, the news release said. The increase reflects “increased operating costs and a commitment to maintaining quality service across all routes,” the release said.
“The fare is a necessary step to keep our system sustainable and responsive to the needs of riders,” said Kim Walker, executive director for Abilities Plus. “We remain dedicated to providing affordable and dependable transit options while continuing to improve safety, accessibility and environmental performance.”
