Galva police report for Sept. 29-Oct. 4

Sept. 29:

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 600 block of SW 4th Street. The animal was returned to its owner.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance/civil property dispute in the 400 block of SW 4th Avenue.

Police responded to a utilities complaint in the 400 block of NW 5th Street. The Galva
Water Department was contacted for a water leak in the yard.

While patrolling, police located a deceased cat on the roadway near a residence in the 800 block of SE 2nd Street. The officer spoke to the resident, who took possession of the cat for burial.

Sept. 30:

Police responded to a complaint involving damage to a parked vehicle in the 400 block of NW 4th Street.

Police responded to a complaint involving a lost or stolen front license plate in the 400 block of Swank Street.

Oct. 1:

Police assisted a disabled vehicle in the 00 block of SW 4th Street. The officer directed traffic while the vehicle was towed.

Police responded to a runaway juvenile complaint in the 400 block of SE 3rd Street. The officer located the subject walking in the northeast area of town, and the juvenile was returned home.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 1000 block of North Center Avenue. The dog was impounded.

Police responded to a loud music complaint in the 00 block of SW 4th Street.

Oct. 2:

Debra Kurzeja, 66, Galva, was issued an administrative warning ticket (AWT) for allowing a dog to run at large after police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 00 block of NE 2nd Street. The officer located the dog, but it took a while to capture it. The animal was impounded.

Police met with a subject at the Galva Police Department to register them as a sex offender.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 200 block of SW 3rd Street. The dog was impounded.

Police responded to a crossing arm malfunction at the SW 6th Avenue railroad tracks. BNSF was contacted for repairs.

Police responded to a juvenile mischief complaint in the 300 block of NE 1st Street.

Oct. 3:

Police responded to a utilities complaint after a large truck tore down utility wires that crossed the roadway in the 100 block of SE 6th Avenue.

Police conducted a low-speed vehicle inspection in the 300 block of SE 8th Avenue.

Police assisted the Annawan Police Department with locating a driver involved in a fender-bender in their city. The subject was provided with contact information to reach the Annawan Police Department for a report.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up call in the 300 block of Front Street. It was determined to be a misdial.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 600 block of NW 1st Avenue. It was returned to its owner.

Police responded to a telephone harassment complaint in the 300 block of Front Street.

Oct. 4:

Police assisted the fire department with a small fire in a combine northwest of town.

Police responded to a report of a broken street sign lying in the area of NE 5th Street and NE 2nd Avenue.

Police assisted a citizen in the 100 block of NE 6th Avenue.

John Kurzeja was arrested for the unlawful use of 9-1-1 after police and the Henry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a request to remove an unwanted subject in the 00 block of NE 4th Street.

Police responded to a complaint involving a group of juveniles loitering in the 500 block of SE 2nd Street. The officer drove through the area, but no crimes were being committed.

Oct. 5:

Police removed an unwanted subject in the 400 block of SW 4th Avenue.

Police recovered parts of a firearm that had been disposed of in the 300 block of Main Street.
