Lady Titans finish strong with fourth at state

By The Kewanee Voice    September 23, 2025

The Annawan-Wethersfield Lady Titans junior high girls softball team placed fourth over the weekend in the state finals.

The Lady Titans defeated Robinson on Friday in the quarterfinals by a score of 7-4. That victory advanced the team to Saturday where they played an undefeated Westville (20-0) team, who won 10-1. Westville would eventually go on to win the state championship and finish undefeated but the Lady Titans were one of only three teams to play Westville and lose by less than 10 runs.

The Lady Titans played Metamora in a back-and-forth third place game before succumbing to the Redbirds 9-6 to come home with the fourth-place state plaque.

Iyla Anderson received the Illinois Elementary School Association Sportsmanship pin for the Lady Titans as they recognized one player of each team who exemplified good sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

The Lady Titans returned home to a police escort through Kewanee and Annawan for their accomplishments.

The team ended with an 18-3 record on the season.
