Princeton tops KHS in golf match

By The Kewanee Voice    September 8, 2025

Kewanee High School’s boys golf team lost a dual match to Princeton at Chapel Hills Golf Course in Princeton.

“Chapel Hills is a tough course with a lot of out of bounds and lateral hazards around the course,” KHS Coach Brett VanDeWostyne said. “This was a course that gave us a lot of trouble last year.”

VanDeWostyne said the team “felt like they weren’t playing very well. We took a lot of penalty strokes, which is expected out of our younger team, and it was our first time playing the course this year.

“We were able to shoot a 190 which is our lowest score of the season,” the coach said. Princeton won the match 171-190.

Senior Owen Laue led the way for Kewanee with a 43 which included two birdies.

“It was great to see him not only play well, but also weather the storm of a couple bad holes,” VanDeWoestyne said.

Kewanee will play Tuesday at Gibson Woods golf course, and Wednesday at Valley View Country Club. Then the team have two days of practice before their home home invitational tournament.
