Forecasts for rain and high temperatures this Saturday have prompted a date change for The Kewanee Voice and Kewanee Park District’s Splish, Splash fundraiser.

The Splish, Splash Shack, offering grilled hot dogs, pork patty meals and root beer floats, will now operate on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Liberty Park splash pad. Meals include chips and a cookie. Bottled water will be available for $1 and root beer floats for $5. All proceeds benefit The Kewanee Voice and the Jerry Nell Memorial Youth Fund.

A new raffle for four tickets to The Back Road Music Festival in Galva has been added. Although the festival is sold out, The Kewanee Voice is offering raffle tickets for just $1 each for a chance to win four tickets for the Aug. 9 festival. The raffle opens Monday, July 28 and ends at the conclusion of the fundraiser on Aug. 2.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at The Kewanee Voice office, located at 121 N. Tremont St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon on Friday or at the fundraiser. Attendees can enjoy lunch, grab a float, support two causes and enter the drawing on site.

The winner will be announced in an article published Monday, Aug. 4 on The Kewanee Voice website.

The Kewanee Voice launched in May 2023 as a nonprofit news outlet committed to informing Kewanee and nearby communities. The site now draws 40,000 monthly users and averages 200,000 page views. It operates from a downtown office staffed by four.

The Jerry Nell Memorial Youth Fund helps families with limited resources enroll children in park district programs including softball, baseball and soccer. Parks Executive Director Andrew Dwyer said the fund continues to make a meaningful impact.

Voice Publisher Mike Berry and Dwyer encourage residents to come out and see the new splash pad, grab lunch and support local news and kids in need.

Volunteers are still needed and should arrive at Liberty Park by 10 a.m. on Aug. 2.

“This is our first-ever community fundraiser,” Berry said. “We hope the readers who rely on us and want to see us grow will show up and help make it a success.”
