
A pedestrian that was struck by a car in the 1000 block of West South Street Sunday has died, according to a news release issued by the Kewanee Police department
The KPD and deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident at approximately 10:11 p.m., according to the release.
On the scene, law enforcement identified the victim at Matthew P. Manthe, 51, Kewanee, and life saving measures were begun immediately. The Kewanee Fire Department EMS arrived on the scene and resuscitation efforts were continued. Manthe was transported to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center and later flown by Life Flight to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He later died from his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old, was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
A KPD accident reconstructionist also responded to the scene and police say the investigation remains ongoing. The Peoria County Coroner’s Office is overseeing the investigation into the death.
