Galva police report for June 30-July 6

June 30:

While patrolling, police witnessed a truck losing a load of tree branches it was hauling in the 900 block of SE 2nd Street. The officer assisted with traffic control and helped the driver load the branches back into the truck.

Police spoke to a walk-in complainant about a trespassing/banning letter that was served several weeks ago.

Police met with a group of subjects who were at City Hall attempting to obtain a solicitor’s permit for home improvements. A permit was ultimately issued.

Police were flagged down by a citizen who appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis in the 300 block of NW 4th Avenue.

Police responded to several 9-1-1 calls and a Life Alert activation in the 100 block of SW 8th Avenue. The officer determined that the subject was testing and setting up a new Life Alert pendant.

Police were present for a child custody exchange in the 200 block of NW 4th Street.

Chessa Griffin, 34, Kewanee, was cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended registration for mandatory insurance and operating an uninsured vehicle following a traffic stop in the 900 block of SE 2nd Street. She was released with a required court date. A passenger, Michael Guerrero, 33, Kewanee, was arrested on a Henry County warrant for two counts of failing to appear on the charges of driving while license is suspended. He was taken to Henry County Jail.

July 1:

Police responded to an attempted break-in in the 900 block of North Center Avenue. Minor damage was noted, but entry was not made.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious person getting water from the side of a building in the 00 block of NE 2nd Street.

Police responded to a solicitor complaint in the 00 block of NE 4th Street. The officer located the subjects in the 100 block of NW 2nd Avenue. They did not have a permit and were told to cease their activities.

Police were present at a child custody exchange in the 200 block of NW 4th Street.

Police assisted Stark County in attempting to locate a vehicle that reportedly was involved in a hit-and-run accident while traveling on Route 17. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

Police assisted Henry County and the Stark County Medic with a private property motorcycle accident north of town.

Jonathan Rodriguez, 41, Galesburg, was cited for operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance and operating an uninsured vehicle following a traffic stop in the 200 block of Exchange Street. He was released with a required court date.

Rayvone Taylor, 36, Dahinda, was arrested for improper use of registration, operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance, operating an uninsured vehicle, and having expired registration following a traffic stop in the 1000 block of SE 2nd Street. He was released with a required court date.

Braden Jones, 46, Galva, was arrested on a Henry County warrant for failing to appear on the charge of driving while his license was revoked after police located a wanted subject in the 200 block of NE 7th Street. He was issued a notice to appear in court and released.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 400 block of SW 4th Avenue. The officer was not able to locate the animal.

July 2:

Police assisted a subject who appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis in the 700 block of NW 4th Street.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of SE 2nd Street.

Police responded to a bicycle theft complaint in the 400 block of NW 2nd Avenue. It was later located in Veterans Park.

Police, along with the fire department, responded to a kitchen fire in the 00 block of NE 3rd Street.

Police assisted a citizen in the 100 block of NE 9th Street.

Police conducted a welfare check in the 300 block of Front Street.

July 3:

Police responded to a complaint of a cat stuck in a tree in the 900 block of NW 6th Street.

Police assisted a subject who appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis in the 700 block of NW 4th Street.

Police were present at a child custody exchange in the 200 block of NW 4th Street.

Police met with a citizen at the Galva PD to recover some packages that were delivered to the wrong address. The packages were later taken to their rightful owner.

Police responded to a two-vehicle accident with damage only at the east edge of Galva. A crash report was completed.

July 4:

Police were flagged down about vehicles parked along the 5K race route in the 00 block of SW 2nd Street.

Police responded to a physical domestic disturbance in the 500 block of NE 3rd Avenue.

Police assisted a subject who appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis in the 700 block of NW 4th Street.

Police removed an unwanted subject in the 100 block of NE 9th Street.

Police responded three times during the fireworks for various 9-1-1 at the Galva Park District. The officers were not able to locate anyone needing assistance.

Police responded to a complaint involving an earlier altercation and a suicidal subject on NW 5th Avenue. The offender was located in Kewanee.

Police assisted a citizen in the 500 block of SE 2nd Street.

Jessi Choate, Avon, was cited for operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance following a traffic stop in the 00 block of SW 6th Street. She was released with a required court date.

July 5:

While patrolling, police found an injured person lying near the roadway in the 00 block of SW 9th Avenue. Witnesses advised the officer that the subject was struck by a vehicle, being driven by a family member. The victim was taken by ambulance for evaluation/treatment. During the investigation, the parties involved declined to cooperate. No charges were filed.

July 6:

Police responded to a city ordinance violation in the 500 block of SW 6th Avenue. The complaint was unfounded.

Police responded to a report of a vehicle parked in the roadway in the 500 block of SW 3rd Street. The subject was able to move the vehicle to the side of the roadway.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up in the 100 block of SE 2nd Avenue. It was a misdial.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 open line call in the 400 block of NW 2nd Avenue. It was determined to be a pocket dial.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 100 block of NW 8th Avenue.

Police removed an unwanted subject in the 00 block of NE 5th Street.

Police, along with the Galva Fire Department and Stark County Medic, were dispatched to a vehicle crash that struck both a parked car and a house in the 500 block of SW 4th Avenue. Henry County also responded and ultimately charged the driver with traffic offenses and DUI-drugs.

Jason Sherbeyn, 48, Galva, was given a notice to appear and released following a report of a male subject “passed out in a parking lot” in the 200 block of NW 1st Street. Sherbeyn also had a warrant from LaSalle County for failing to appear on retail theft charges.

Police responded to a complaint involving a group of juveniles knocking on doors and then running away in the 400 block of SE 7th Avenue. The subjects were located and ultimately turned over to a guardian.

A 17-year-old from Kewanee was issued a citation for speeding in the 1200 block of SE 2nd Street.
