Recently Black Hawk College was certified as a “Great Place to Work,” a national recognition based on direct feedback from employees about their workplace experience.

College officials say the certification reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to foster a positive, inclusive and supportive environment for faculty and staff. The results come from an anonymous survey conducted by Great Place to Work, the global authority on workplace culture.

“This certification is a testament to our dedicated faculty and staff who work every day to create an environment where students can thrive and employees feel valued,” said Dr. Jeremy Thomas, Black Hawk College president. “Our people are the heart of our success.”

The 2025 employee survey included high marks in areas such as:

● Strong sense of community and teamwork
● Trust in leadership
● Pride in the work being done to serve students and the region

“This recognition validates the work we’ve done over the past two years to build a culture based on trust, collaboration and opportunity,” said Vince Luley, director of human resources. “We’re committed to continuing this momentum and ensuring that Black Hawk remains a place where people want to build their careers.”

The honor underscores the college’s mission to not only educate students but also cultivate a workplace where employees feel respected, empowered and inspired.

“This recognition shows that we’re building something meaningful, not just for our students, but for the professionals who make it all possible,” Dr. Thomas said.

The Great Place to Work Certification is based entirely on current employees’ feedback about their experience working at Black Hawk College. It is awarded to organizations where a high percentage of employees consistently report a positive workplace experience.
