KHS FFA has section officer, and awaits state ratings

By The Kewanee Voice    May 12, 2025
KHS sophomore Kelsey Scott has been named a Section 3 FFA vice president.

Kewanee High School’s FFA program has been making news this spring, with a member of the local program named a section vice president and chapter ratings for the year to be announced next month.

Sophomore Kelsey Scott, was elected as the 2025-2026 Section 3 FFA vice president. The election was announced last week at the Section 3 banquet.

Scott will serve as the Strengthening Agriculture vice president next year.

Kelsey, along with 16 other candidates representing the 13 schools in Kewanee’s section, presented to 34 voting delegates as a candidate for vice president. She delivered a three-minute prepared speech on her platform for her year of service.

“We are proud of her commitment to the blue jacket and look forward to her representing more than herself as she travels the section this next school year,” KHS agriculture teacher Kindra Callahan said.

Callahan also provided information on the FFA chapter ratings.

FFA programs, she said, are rated based on their program of activities with a focus on three areas: Growing Leaders, Strengthening Agriculture and Building Communities.

Chapters may receive a Superior, Bronze, Silver, or Gold rating in each category and overall.

After the scoring of Kewanee’s National Chapter Award application in Illinois, “We are in the top 10 percent, rated Gold in each of the three categories, and a national finalist, which means we are one of the top 38 programs in Illinois,” Callahan said. “We will be recognized at the 97th Illinois FFA State Convention in June and will learn how we rank overall.

“Our application will be sent on to the National FFA to determine our National FFA Star ratings to be recognized at the National Convention in the fall.

“And, more exciting news, in our Kewanee Middle FFA’s infancy, they have finished the year as a silver-rated chapter,” Callahan said.

She said she is “very humbled to be at KHS and honored to work with your FFA members.”
