
The results of the April 1 school board election and election of officers for the next two years were at the top of the agenda at the April meeting of the Wethersfield Board of Education held Monday night.
Five candidates ran for four-year terms on the board with incumbents Steve Newman and Paula Baker outpolling newcomer Andrew Verstraete for two open seats in the incorporated portion of the school district. The board canvassed and certified the election results with Newman receiving 444 votes followed by Baker with 426 and Verstraete with 384.
For two uncontested seats in the unincorporated portion of the district, incumbents Allyson Schiltz and Angela Ryan were re-elected to four year terms with Ryan receiving 417 votes and Schiltz 412.
The board then reorganized electing Newman president and Dan Bryan, vice president.
Bryan had previously served as president and Newman as vice president. Ryan was re-elected secretary and Schiltz district treasurer. All were elected to two-year terms.
Becca Herridge was re-appointed custodian of the district’s activity fund. Community State Bank, Peoples National Bank, the State Bank of Toulon and the Illinois Liquid Asset Fund were re-designated as depositories of district funds.
During regular business, the board approved quotes for several projects slated for completion over the summer.
A quote of $20,213 was received from TSR Concrete Coatings to resurface the floor of the cafeteria kitchen with polyurea basecoat. TSR also provided the quote for resurfacing the floors of the science classroom and lab with the same material for $10,219 and the for the floor in the upstairs hallway at the north end of the high school for $19,260.
Potter & Sons’ quote of $4,300 was approved for repair of asphalt in the Blish parking lot.
A $6,745 quote from Mangieri Refinishing for the routine resurfacing of the junior high and high school gym floors was also approved.
Bids for replacement of the aging Kewanee boiler in the Blish Building will be considered at the May meeting.
Following an executive session the board approved second year non-tenured contracts for the 2025-2026 school year for Erin Wyffels, Bart Frey, Patrick Wilson and Hannah Wiryick, and approved a fourth year non-tenured contract to Adriana Garcia.
Tenured contracts were approved for 33 faculty members including: Cindy Addis, Paul Alepra, Carl Anderson, Amy Bryan, Kelly Camey, Cathy Dana, Amanda Devalkenaere. Kyria Eastman, Laura Evans, Amanda Frank, Jennifer Gault, Sarah Gomez, Shelly Gomez, Tony Gripp, Kimberly Hampton, Lisa Hand, Pat Keane, Elizabeth Kegebein, Tricia Lay, Leticia Martinez, Tom McGunnigal, Heidi Merrick, Dawn Newman, Kate Rashid, Cortni Rumbold, Shelli Sauer, Malerie Schmidt, Jessie Seiden, Steven Stoner, Jeremy Trill, Lori Vancil, Tonya Vincent and Tara Woller.
Looking ahead, the WHS Prom will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 at The Stables. Premier introductions will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the high school immediately followed by the crowning of prom royalty.
Graduation will be held Sunday, May 25 at 2 p.m. and the eighth-grade celebration dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27.
