Boiler Girls lose one, win one

Geneseo 12, Boiler Girls 10

Kewanee High School’s Boiler Girls played against the Geneseo Lady Leafs on April 12 but came up short with a score of 10-12.

Throughout the game the Boiler Girls amassed 12 hits. Junior Kalleigh Gale, sophomore Remy Hicks and freshman Allyson Puskar all got multiple hits during their game against the Lady Leafs. 

Not only did the Boiler Girls get hits, but they also batted in some runs. Gale had 3 runs, with sophomore Macee Pickering picking up 2. Puskar, sophomore Addy Yepsen, and sophomore Lyric Duytschaver had one run each. 

During this game there were many base hits, but Kieryn Abernathy’s homerun stood out.

Boiler Girls 10, Hall 0

Starting the week off strong the Boiler Girls headed towards the Hall Red Devils for a win to add to their books. 

Ringing up 12 strikeouts, Gale was dominant in the circle during the  victory over Hall Red Devils, 10-0. Gale allowed one walk, one hit, and zero runs over the first five innings. 

Right off the bat, the Boiler Girls were on the board when freshman Rylee Blades hit a double scoring one run for the Boilers. In the top of the third inning Blades had a double and scored two runs, Pickering drew a walk and scored a run, and Puskar had laid down a given-up bunt also scoring one run — all adding to the Boiler Girls’ early lead. 

Five runs and four hits were scored by the Boiler Girls in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman Ava Delphi had convinced Duytschaver to hit a fielder’s choice but was only able to score one run. Yepsen drew a walk adding a run to the Boiler Girls’ score.

Hicks had a single with another scored run for the team. Gale tried to hit into a fielder’s choice but scored a run. Sophomore Kieryn Abernathy also singled and scored a run. 

Overall, Blades drove the middle of the lineup, leading Kewanee with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-2. Hicks, Abernathy and Blades each collected two hits for the Boiler Girls.
