Boiler Girls get two softball wins

Big offensive effort against Princeville

On Tuesday, April 8, the Boiler Girls beat out a 9-4 victory against Princeville. 

Princeville was the first to get on the board during the first inning due to an error, scoring two runs. 

At the end of the first inning, the Boiler Girls made the score 3-2 when sophomore Addison Yepsen hit a single and scored a run.

Three girls, combined, hit five of the 10 hits in the Boiler Girls’ win: Yepsen and freshmen Lyric Duytschaver and Lillian Lee. Although those girls did not score, they drove in three for their team. Sophomore Kieryn Abernathy hit a double during the fifth inning and scored two runs.

Duytschaver later hit a single and led the score to 6-3. Over five innings, the starter gave up four runs, two runs, and earned one more run. Nine were stuck out and zero walked. 

Junior Kalliegh Gale brought home the run for the Boiler Girls. 

The Boiler Girls accumulated 10 hits throughout the game. Abernathy, Yepsen, Lee, and sophomore Macee Pickering each had two hits. Both Abernathy and Yepsen drove home two runs for the Boiler Girls.

A 6-0 win against Erie-Prophetstown 

The Boiler Girls opened conference play at home on Thursday, April 10 in Northeast Park against Erie-Prophetstown. 

Gale was dominant throughout the game and rang up 12 strikeouts during the Boiler Girls’ victory. 

Gale allowed six hits and zero runs over seven innings, and no walks. 

Duytschaver led the Boiler Girls by batting in three runs. Sophomore Remy Hicks and freshman Rylee Blades each had two hits for the Boiler Girls. The Boiler Girls were running wild during the game and were able to steal seven bases. 

Four girls had runs for the Boiler Girls win: Abernathy scored two, Blades brought home two, and sophomore Audrey Clucas and freshman Lee each made one hit.
