Several drivers did not have the luck of the Irish over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend and ended up on the wrong side of the law.
Earlier this month, Police Chief Stephen Kijanowski took the occasion of St. Patrick’s Day to remind people of the dangers of impaired driving — and to warn of a stepped-up enforcement effort against impaired driving and other traffic violations over the holiday weekend.
In a news release on Monday, the Kewanee Police Department announced the results of the campaign that netted one DUI arrest, two driving while license is suspended and an arrest for possession of methamphetamine.
“We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason-to save lives,” said Kijanowski.
The KPD joined forces with state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners in the enforcement campaign.
The safety effort was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
