The city of Galva is ordering trees through the Henry County Soil and Water Conservation District and invites residents within city limits to add to the order.
“Any trees purchased through this program are sold at a discounted rate,” said Mayor Rich Volkert adding, “A wide variety of small and large container-grown trees, including fruit trees are available.”
The SWCD also has hedge plants, evergreens, groundcovers, perennials, and various grasses available for purchase.
For nearly a half-century, Galva has been designated a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation. “Galva’s parks are full of beautiful trees,” said the mayor. “But our residents use this opportunity to beautify their property as well.” He adds that he hopes everyone in town will take advantage of this opportunity. “It’s a great deal, and we appreciate the partnership we have with the Soil and Water Conservation District.”
Volkert encourages Galva residents to act quickly, as the deadline for ordering at City Hall is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25. Brochures detailing the trees and other plantings are available at City Hall, located at 311 NW 4th Avenue.
If you live outside Galva city limits you can contact the SWCD at 309-937-3377 to inquire about placing orders through their sale.
