The price of a season golf pass at the Baker Park golf course might be increasing. But other Kewanee Park District fees likely will stay the same next year.

At their November meeting, the Kewanee Park Board discussed the district’s activity fees.

Executive Director Andrew Dwyer said the charge for a season pass at the golf course is low when compared with other golf courses in the area.

Dwyer said the season pass costs as much as 24 individual rounds of golf at Baker. At other courses, the season fee is as much as the cost of 30 rounds, he said.

The fees the district charges for participation in youth sports, Dwyer said, don’t need to be raised. That’s because of “huge growth” in the number of kids in the park baseball and softball program, he said.

The park board also approved the annual working-cash bond issue. The park district will issue $605,000 in bonds, with Peoples Financial Corporation purchasing the bonds at 3.97 percent interest.

Dwyer said the proceeds of the bond issue will pay for park improvements, facilities and services.

The park district has applied for a state grant to help pay for a new handicapped-accessible playground at Windmont Park.  Dwyer said if the grant is approved, some of the bond proceeds will go toward the district’s share of the cost of that project.

Other possible uses for the money include eight new golf carts at Baker Park, a new tractor and shelter house improvements.
