Contractors are making progress on the renovation of the tennis courts at Windmont Park.

The courts, which had deteriorated over the years, are being replaced with an academic complex that will include a new tennis court, pickleball courts and some basketball hoops.

The renovation had originally been planned for completion this month, but the tornado that hit the park on July 15 set those plans back several weeks.

On Thursday, a new asphalt surface was laid down on the court.

Andrew Dwyer, executive director of the Kewanee Park District, said the next step will be installation of a fence around the court, by Illinois Fence. Then FlexCourt will install the surface for the tennis court, pickleball courts and basketball courts.

Dwyer said he expects that the project will be completed in three weeks, and some sort of event will be held to officially open the new facilities.

In the rest of the park, some work remains to complete the recovery from the tornado.

A section of the fence along Beach Street is still missing; it will be replaced as soon as a contractor can fit it into his schedule.

Some repairs also remain for buildings in the park, Dwyer said.
