
There is much going on at the Galva Public Library in June, and everyone’s invited. The schedule of activities is as follows:
Tuesday, June 4 at 2 p.m. at the Galva United Methodist Church (214 NW 2nd Ave.) “A Golden Spike and a Silver Hammer, Riding the Rails with Barry Cloyd.”

Cloyd is a tremendously versatile musician, performing in over 200 shows a year with his unique blend of Blues, Folk, and Celtic music. He has also written more than 20 original Folk musicals. 350 songs and appeared in more than 300 television commercials. Don’t miss this amazing performance.
Wednesday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Make and Take Dough.” Drop in and see how to make your own dough. All supplies provided.
Thursday, June 6 from 1 – 2 p.m. at the Galva United Methodist Church (214 NW 2nd Ave.) Children’s Summer Reading Program presents “Snake Science” by Nahant Marsh Education Center
Dive into the world of snakes! Encounter live snakes and learn about their adaptations, diets, and habitats. Get ready for an adventure that will change the way you see these incredible creatures!
The Nahant Marsh Preserve is the largest urban wetland on the Upper Mississippi River. It is comprised of marshy areas, mesic, wet and sand prairie, and bottomland forest. The educational programming is overseen by Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC).
Tuesday, June 11 – all day “Make and Take Craft @ The Library”
Make a kitchen knife block from books. All materials supplied.
Wednesday, June 12 from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m. Make and take a carton birdhouse.
Help your feathered friends with a handcrafted home. All supplies provided.
Thursday, June 13 from 1 – 2 p.m. at the Wiley Park Pavilion (NW 2nd St) Children’s Summer Reading Program presents “Iowa Turtles” by Nahant Marsh Education Center
Join staff from the Education Center and the library for a turtle-tastic adventure. Explore the world of land and aquatic turtles; see them live and learn all about their amazing adaptations, diets and habitats. It promises to be a fun experience for everyone.
Tuesday, June 18 from 1 – 2 p.m. at the Galva Public Library (120 NW 3rd Ave.) Adult Summer Reading Program presents “Summer Wild Edibles” by Nahant Marsh Education Center
Learn about the wild foods that grow under your feet. Many plants we consider weeds are actually nutritious and tasty if safely gathered at the right time. This presentation is geared towards adults and designed to give participants basic skills and knowledge. Many of the plants covered in the class can be found in your backyard or local park.
Wednesday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Make and Take some Rock Photo Art.” You don’t need to be an artist to enjoy this session. All materials are provided.
Wednesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Make and Take Popsicle Bookmark.” Summer means popsicles and reading. What a great combination. All materials provided.
Thursday, June 27 from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Galva Public Library
“The Adult Summer Reading Ending Party”
Join your fellow readers for refreshments and raffle drawings! What better way to share your love of books with others than a party!
“Kindness Afternoon” meets every Monday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Learn ways to be kind to your neighborhood.
The Galva Public Library was constructed in 1910 with a grant from Andrew Carnegie. When it opened its doors, its bookshelves contained 1,200 volumes. Today, the library offers the use of high-speed internet, photocopying, faxing and home delivery to those with permanent disability or illness. Staff members are available for assistance.
Library hours are:
Monday and Tuesday – 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday – 1 to 5 p.m.
Saturday – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
