Kewanee boys first, girls third at Dunlap Invite

The Kewanee boys’ track and field team topped the 5-team field Friday at the Dunlap Co-Ed Invitational. The Boilers have now won three of their last four invitational meets. Kewanee scored 152 points, fending off host Dunlap (150 points) for first place.

The Boilers’ lone invitational loss during the outdoor season was to a tough Rock Falls team at the Ferris Invite on April 15 in Princeton. Rock Falls took first with 284 points and Kewanee had a runner-up effort with 242.5 points. 

The Boilermakers won titles at the Howard-Monier Invite in Princeton (April 9); the Paul Parker Invite in Riverdale (April 12); and the Dunlap Invitational (April 19).

The Boilers Girls placed third among the field of eight teams at the Dunlap Invite. Dunlap won the girls’ title with 152 points. Kewanee was three points behind Peoria (Richwoods) for third place.

The Kewanee boys won five events (four of them being field events) and the girls won one event. Stardeja Jordan placed first in the shot put with a winning effort of 33′ 11.5″. 

Winning for the boys were Anthony Padilla in the 110 hurdles (16.07) and Leocadio Gandarilla in the discus (137′ 4.5″). Padilla was also second in the 300 meter hurdles at 43.68 and Gandarilla placed second in the shot put (45′ 8.75″).

Kewanee finished first and third in the high jump. James Roginski had the winning jump of 5′ 11.75″ and Dontaveon Thomas was third at 5′ 9.75″. 

Thomas placed first in the long jump with a leap of 20′ 7.25″ and Tyson Currie topped the field in the pole vault, going 9′ 11.75″.
