Kewanee boys top field at 5-team home track and field meet

Kewanee High School hosted a five-team meet Thursday at the Breedlove-Peterson Track and Field Complex. Kewanee prevailed in the girls’ meet with 96 points and also won the boys’ meet with 110 points. The Boilermakers scored a combined 206 to win the 5-team meet. 

Stark County was second, overall, with a combined team score of 121 points, Farmington was third with 89, Mendota was fourth with 73 and Galva was fifth with 32 points.

Kewanee’s JJ Roginski won both the high jump and the 800 meter run. He cleared 6’1″ in the high jump which equals the state meet qualifying standard.

Leo Gandarilla and Daniel Boswell of Kewanee had the winning and runner-up efforts in the shot put. Gandarilla also won the discus with a throw of 119′ 9.75″.

Other first place finishes for the Boilers were Jason Rusk in the 3200 meter run, Tre Amos in the long jump and Anthony Padilla in the 110 meter hurdles. Kewanee also won the 4×100, 4×200, and the 4×800 relays. 

Nolan Orwig of Stark County had dual wins in the 100 and 200 meter sprint events. He was also first in the 300 meter hurdles. Matthew Bowser had a winning effort of 37′ 7.25″ in the triple jump for the Rebels.

The Boilers will be back on the track for another home meet on Tuesday.
