The Kewanee Varsity Boiler Girls Softball team made a comeback in the last inning to win a home game at Northeast park Wednesday.
The Boiler trailed the Lady Rocks of Rock Island 4-5 going into the bottom of the 7th. Kewanee held Rock Island to zero runs in their final at bat. The Boiler girls battled back in a last inning rally and added two more runs to the board to bring the final score to 6-5.
Kewanee came even in hits with Rock Island, both ending with nine total hits. Marissa Stevens led the team with two hits. Kalleigh Gale had one hit and two RBIs. Hope Peed, Tori Dennison, and Cheyanne Rodgers each had one hit and one RBI. Makaela Salisbury, Ava LaFollette, and Hannah Tiska each added a hit for the Boiler Girls.
Peed started on the mound for Kewanee. She threw for two innings, striking out three batters and allowing two hits. Gale came into the game in relief and worked the mound for three innings. She struck out three batters and allowed four hits. Salisbury came into the game in relief for Gale. She threw for the final two innings, had one strike out, and allowed three hits.
