On Friday, Feb. 16, in front of the high school student body in the KHS gym, the Kewanee Police Department’s basketball team, the Dunkin Donuts, took on the Kewanee Boilermakers Life Skills team. This is the first year that the event had such an audience and the first year that the game included the KHS band, cheerleaders and poms.

The Key Club made signs with the names of the Boilermaker players and distributed them among the crowd for the pep rally, which kicked off the game.

The KPD burst onto the court for the warm up to the theme of Bad Boys, and pre-game festivities included a rousing rendition of the Kewanee school song, followed by the National Anthem.

After the first quarter, with a score of 10 to 6, things weren’t looking too good for the KPD. Last year, the KHS Like Skills team beat the KPD 54-51.

Players from the Dunkin Donuts team included Police Chief Stephen Kijanowski, Dep. Chief Michael Minx, Sgt. Justin Peed, officer Eric Hamilton, and KHS resource officer Shawn Gruszeczka.
