Geese lose hard-fought game to Princeville

In a high-octane game involving some hot 3-point shooting and several lead changes, the Princeville Princes prevailed Tuesday night in a tight 58-55 win over the Wethersfield Flying Geese (11-16, 5-5). 

With the season winding down, Mercer County (24-6) remains at the top of the LTC leaderboard with an unblemished 10-0 record. Princeville is 25-5 and 9-1, while Stark County is in third at 18-11 and 8-2 in the conference. 

Key games being played Thursday are Mercer County against Monmouth-United (15-14, 2-7) and Stark County at Princeville. 

Princeville 58, Wethersfield 55

Those on hand at Wethersfield Gym Tuesday night were treated to an impressive 3-point shooting display by both teams. Each team scorched the nets for eight treys for a total of 16 on the night. 

Tucker Sennett got the 3-point parade started by hitting five long bombs for 15 points and a total of 17 points to aid in Princeville’s 26-12 first quarter lead over the Geese. 

Landon Sauer and Dillon Horrie each hit one trey for the Geese.

Wethersfield fought back in the second quarter and outscored Princeville 14-7, but the Princes maintained a 33-26 halftime lead. 

Zeb Rashid nailed two threes and scored eight of Wethersfield’s 14 points in the second frame and Sauer added four more en route to scoring 10 first half points. Rashid also had 10 at the half. 

Sennett added one more 3-pointer in the second quarter, bringing his total number of points to 20 at the half and his total number of 3-pointers to six. 

Wethersfield came back out onto the floor in the third quarter and put up 26 points of their own. This time is was junior Zeb Rashid with the hot hand. 

Rashid tossed in three 3-pointers and scored a total of 13 points in helping the Geese take a 52-48 lead with one quarter left to play. Sauer contributed another 3-pointer and 11 points as Wethersfield outscored Princeville 26-15. 

Tayshaun Keiser led the Princes with six points. 

Princeville had one last rally left in the tank as they outscored Wethersfield 10-3 in final eight minutes to claim the 58-55 LTC win. 

Three players shared scoring honors with 23 points apiece (Sennett of Princeville and Rashid and Sauer of Wethersfield). 

Keiser chipped in with 12 for Princeville.
