Boilers girls lose heartbreaker to Princeton

The Boiler Girls came close to upsetting Princeton Saturday, but fell one point short, 55-54. Princeton (18-8) remains at the top of the TRAC-East leaderboard with a record of 8-1. 

Kewanee falls to 9-17 overall and 5-5 in the conference. 

Princeton took a 16-8 first quarter lead, but the Boiler Girls closed the gap to one point, 24-23, by halftime. 

Camryn Driscoll led the first quarter Princeton surge with 10 points, while Damaris Diaz played a key role in Kewanee’s comeback with eight second-quarter points. Tejhiana Amos made two 3-pointers and scored seven in the first half in support. 

The Boiler Girls took a 35-33 lead by the end of the third quarter, but Princeton outscored Kewanee 22-19 down the stretch to secure the 55-54 conference win. 

Mya Dearing drained two threes in the third quarter and added two more in the fourth to help keep Kewanee close. In all, Dearing scored 14 second half points and Diaz added six points in the third quarter. 

Keighley Davis scored 13 second half points for Princeton. 

Amos added eight points in the fourth quarter, but the Boiler Girls struggled at the free throw line, going 6 for 12 in the final frame. 

Driscoll topped all scorers with 19 points, Davis followed with 17 and Reese Revigillio added seven in the winning effort. 

Kewanee’s balanced scoring attack was led by Dearing and Diaz who scored 17 apiece, while Amos added 15 points.
