
The Wethersfield Flying Geese played well on the bookend quarters Friday night against Mercer County, but the middle two quarters sealed their fate in a 69-38 LTC loss.
The Geese were only down by three, 15-12, after the first quarter of play. Senior forward Landon Sauer scored all of Wethersfield’s 12 points, while Colby Cox put in eight for the Golden Eagles.
Mercer County then erupted for 46 points in the middle two quarters to put the game out of reach for Wethersfield.
Sauer scored 14 first half points and eight in the second half to top all scorers with 22 points on the night. Junior Zeb Rashid added seven for the Geese.
Colby Cox led the Mercer County balanced scoring attack with 17 points. Lucas Courson had 14, Carson Boelens scored 12 and Jude Hofman added 11 in the win.
Landon Sauer joins 1000 point club
Wethersfield senior Landon Sauer scored his 1,000th career point during Friday night’s game against Mercer County. His accomplishment will be recognized February 6 during the Senior Night ceremony when Wethersfield takes on Monmouth (United).
