Boiler Girls lose Brimfield finale in OT

The Kewanee Boiler Girls lost their final game of the Brimfield Tournament, 55-50 in overtime to Tremont. 

The Boiler Girls led the first three quarters, winning 13-12 after the first quarter and 22-16 at the half. Tremont outscored Kewanee 13-12 in the third frame, but the Boiler Girls maintained a 34-29 lead with one quarter left to play.

Point guard Mya Dearing scored nine first half points for Kewanee and Damaris Diaz had six. 

Tremont rallied in the fourth quarter and outscored the Boiler Girls 16-11 to tie the game at 45 and force the game into overtime. 

Kewanee forwards Tejhiana Amos and Avery Yepsen scored seven points and five in the final two quarters to keep Kewanee in contention. 

Amos scored all five of Kewanee’s overtime points, but Tremont scored 10 in the extra frame to earn the 55-50 win. 

Tremont’s Savannah Leigh Jost led all scorers with 27 points and Reese Love added 16 for the Turks. 

Dearing and Amos scored 17 and 15 respectively for the Boiler Girls. Diaz and Yepsen had eight and seven in vain.

Kewanee went 0-4 in tourney play and Tremont was 1-3.
