
It was a tale of two halves between Wethersfield and Brimfield in Friday’s third round action of the Brimfield Thanksgiving Shootout.
The Lady Geese were all business at the onset against host Brimfield as they cruised to an early 16-3 lead. Brimfield came to life in the second quarter, outscoring Wethersfield 11-9, but the Lady Geese still had an 11-point cushion (25-14) at the break.
Wethersfield used a balanced scoring attack in the first half. Paige Huffman made two of her three treys in the opening half. Kennady Anderson and Lajaya Angel added seven and six points in support.
Brimfield fought their way back and outscored the Lady Geese 12-6 in the third quarter and 22-13 in the second half, but Wethersfield maintained a 31-26 lead after three quarters of play.
In the end, Wethersfield’s first half cushion held and the Lady Geese hung on for the 38-36 win.
Huffman and Anderson led Wethersfield with 11 points apiece and Angel added nine in the win.
Brimfield’s Ava Heinz scored the entirety of her game high 14 points in the second half (six in the third and eight in the fourth). Josie Wiewel had eight of her dozen in the first half.
The 3-0 Lady Geese will now take on Elmwood in the championship game at 3:30 p.m. at Brimfield. Elmwood is 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in tourney play.
The Trojans’ path to the title game came via wins over Princeville (36-28), Midwest Central-Delavan (48-39) and Kewanee (47-21).
