A woman was taken to OSF St. Luke Medical Center after an early-morning fire Friday in a home in the 600 block of East Second Street.

A fire department spokesman said it did not appear that the woman’s injuries were serious.

The fire call came in a 4:06 a.m. and firefighters remained on the scene for more than three hours.

The spokesman said the fire apparently started in the house’s basement and spread to the first floor. There was significant heat and fire damage to the inside of the house, he said.

A dog and a hedgehog were located in the house and were “safe and sound,” the spokesman said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation
