Friends of Allison Trigg are behind her while she battles cancer. Trigg, a 40-year-old mother of two young boys, was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. A busy wife and mother, she and husband are very active in the Galva Youth Sports Association (GYSA). Both are coaches for the kids’ baseball program.

To help her with the costs of battling her disease, friends have planned a baseball tournament in her honor on Saturday, July 19, at the Galva Park District. The fundraiser is set to kick off at 9 am. Called “Strike Out Cancer,” it will feature the teams Knox County Crush, Cancer Crushers, Galva Baseball, Williamsfield Baseball and the Backroad Batrattlers.

The event will include a silent auction featuring large gift baskets, a hand-painted barn quilt, homemade jams and jellies and designer purses. In addition, an artist will offer temporary tattoos, a DJ, and “a yummy concession stand” will open at 10 a.m.

To help support her journey, her friend Carlin Follis created colorful yard signs that are popping up all over town. Designed with the bright pink cancer ribbon on a dark blue background, the words “Trigg Tough” are added in large white print.

Yard signs are available for a donation of $20.

The signs are available for a donation of $20, with half of the proceeds going directly to Trigg. So far, over 80 signs have been sold, with hopes of 100 placed in yards by week’s end. Orders can be placed at the Galva Senior Center or through Follis’s Facebook page.

In addition to the July 19 event, the Backroads Music Festival, set for August 9, is raffling off a guitar signed by Alabama, Black Hawk and Emily Ann Roberts, who will be performing that day.

Raffle tickets are on sale at Galva City Hall and Compton Accounting in Altona. They are also available through the Trigg Tough Facebook page. Priced at $5 each, or five for $20, they will also be sold during the Music Festival.

There are other ways in which the community can help. A special bank account has been created at the Toulon State Bank in Galva, and donations can be made via PayPal @TriggTough.

Chemotherapy treatments are currently underway for the young Galvan, which will be followed later by surgery.

Recently, Trigg posted this message on her Facebook page:

“Every time a new fundraiser for my family pops up, my mind is just blown and my heart fills with more emotion than I know what to do with and today is no exception. Going through this cancer stuff sucks. It’s physically challenging, it wears you down mentally, and then to watch my family, especially the boys, try to make sense of it is a whole different challenge. But then the amazing Carlin Follis shows up with yard signs so we can not only feel the love, but see it, and it just reminds me that so much good is coming from this. I am truly thankful for how much the people in Galva and the surrounding communities have shown their support for my family and me during all of this. We are so fortunate to live where we do and blessed to know the people we know. All of the support during this has made it easier to deal with. It takes a village, and ours is incredible.”
