A Tiskilwa man arrested by the Kewanee Police Department on a public indecency charge back on Sept. 18, was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography on Friday, Oct. 6, according to a police update on the case.

Daniel N. Carlson, 56, was arrested by Kewanee police for public indecency following an investigation in the 600 block of East Street of a report of indecent exposure. According to a press release issued in September, two girls were walking on a sidewalk when they said they passed by a Ford 4-door sedan that was parked on the side of the road. The driver then reportedly exposed himself to the girls as they walked by. The girls reported the incident to an adult who contacted authorities.

From a description provided by the girls, police located Carlson’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of South Tremont Street. Police would later learn that Carlson had been arrested for a similar incident in Princeton in November of 1999.

During the investigation, police believed that Carlson could have incriminating evidence on two of his cellular phones and executed a search warrant on the data. During the search of the phones, videos depicting the act alleged against him on Sept. 18 were found, as well as several images of child pornography.

Carlson was arrested Friday on the preliminary charges of 10 counts of possession of child pornography, a Class 2 felony, He was taken to jail. A Class 2 felony carries a potential sentence of three to seven years in prison.

The KPD was assisted in this case by investigators from the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office.
