The Kewanee Voice turns one, holds birthday bash to celebrate

By The Kewanee Voice    April 8, 2024

Next month, The Kewanee Voice turns one. The local non-profit news site launched on May 2, 2023 and will celebrate its first birthday.

In honor of the milestone, The Kewanee Voice board of directors is throwing a birthday bash and the public is invited to attend.

“One year ago, we launched our non-profit news organization with the purpose of keeping our community informed,” said Publisher Mike Berry. “Doing so was always a leap of faith, but the public, city leaders and local businesses have backed us and supported us and for that we are grateful.”

The birthday party will be held on Friday, May 3 at the Elks Club in downtown Kewanee beginning at 6:30 p.m. There is no cost for attending. Area residents, business owners, city leaders, and organizations of all kinds are invited to come out and meet the staff and board of The Kewanee Voice, have a piece of birthday cake and enter raffles to win prizes.

Throughout the evening, a raffle for gift cards and gift baskets will be held. The proceeds raised from the raffles will go towards ensuring local news is kept alive in the community.

“This one-year milestone is important to us,” said Susan DeVilder, managing editor. “For the past year, Mike and I, along with the our hard-working staff of writers and board of directors, have dedicated ourselves to serving our community by offering news and information and bringing back in-depth local sports coverage. We hope everyone will come out and celebrate this special moment with us.”
