Two new directors have joined the board of The Kewanee Voice. Sherry “TD” Welch and Jesse Humphrey will join fellow directors Paula Kapacinskas, Nichelle Morey, Lauren Dynes-Gillespie, Taurean Bond and Van DeVilder.

“I was born in Kewanee and educated in their schools,” said Welch. “I had a wonderful life growing up and even though I have lived in many places in this great country, I have always considered Kewanee my home.”

After retiring, Welch moved back to Kewanee and wanted to find a way to give back.

“I believe a community thrives on connection. The Kewanee Voice is bringing that connection back to our city. I am proud to be able to serve on its Board of Directors and be a part of helping Kewanee regain its voice.”

Humphrey is a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Kewanee. He was born and raised in Galva and after graduating attended Southern Illinois University. He obtained his degree in mechanical engineering and worked as a design engineer for a sports construction company in St. Louis. His last project before moving back to the Kewanee area was the Kewanee High School turf football field.

After living in St. Louis for 10 years, Jesse returned to Kewanee to begin a career as a financial advisor.

“I moved back and bought my first home here last year,”said Humphrey, “and I want to do what I can to help Kewanee continue to be a great place to live and raise a family.”

Humphrey said that when he first learned about The Kewanee Voice and how excited people were to get local news back, it was an easy decision to join the board.

“I believe that local news is very important for any community, but especially for a town like Kewanee. Kewanee has a unique sense of community that is hard to find in larger cities, and local news is an important part of maintaining that,” he said.

The Kewanee Voice is a nonprofit news organization and a project of the Kewanee Senior Citizens. Its mission is to provide local, independent reporting to keep the community informed.
