The Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association will hold its annual 5k Swedish Stomp on Saturday, April 27.
A pancake breakfast begins at 7:30 am. The fee for breakfast only is $8 per person.
For the Stomp, which starts at 9 a.m., there is an early bird special, with entry fees submitted by April 19 at a reduced rate of $25 for adult participants and $18 for those aged 7 through high school. Each participant will receive a t-shirt to commemorate the event.
After April 19, the fee for adults increases to $28, and to $20 for the younger group. Those 6 years old and under can enter the “Skamparoo” free of charge but will not receive a t-shirt.
The race course circles through historic Bishop Hill and into the hilly countryside around the town. Joella Krause, the Association’s president, said the event averages between 40 and 60 runners, with last year’s race scoring a record 80 competitors.

Following the race, the participants will meet back at the Colony School for special refreshments and awards for overall male and female winners, and those in specific age groups.
All proceeds will benefit the Association in its continued effort to restore and maintain the historic 1861 Colony School and its grounds.
According to Krause, this year’s race will be the “golden run” as the event is now celebrating 27 years on April 27.
“The Old Settlers’ Association is the oldest, active organization in the village, fueled by volunteer effort,” said Krause.
