There’s good news today for Kewanee drivers: North Main Street will be resurfaced.
This fall.
Mayor Gary Moore posted on his Facebook page Thursday, “I just received word today, the Illinois Department of Transportation is going to be doing North Main Street from the railroad tracks all the way to East 10th Street.”
The mayor wrote that IDOT had originally planned to pave the street only as far north as Seventh or Eighth street.
“The bid letting will be the 21st of September, and actual work, weather permitting, should start within a few weeks of that,” Moore wrote.
The news isn’t so good for another major street project on Kewanee’s north side.
Rebuilding West Sixth Street from Lexington Avenue to West Street has been on the drawing board at IDOT for years. State officials have said they have encountered problems with acquiring the right-of-way that will be needed for that job.
Moore wrote, “Route 81, West Sixth Street, is still scheduled to be done, but I have not been given a time frame for that work. Right now they are still working on right of ways, and any legal work that needs to be done before actual work proceeds.
“As soon as I receive any information concerning this project from IDOT, I will pass it along,” the mayor wrote.
