On duty in the new digs Monday was State Rep. Travis Weaver’s Chief of Staff Nick Wheeler.
“I am not an interior designer,” he said of the sparsely furnished office located inside the Kewanee train station. “So we’re still working on getting settled.”
Wheeler said there are plans for the small office, including bringing in some comfortable furniture and placing an official decal on the window. It’s his hope to place information that people can use detailing different state programs and other opportunities on the large table just inside the door.
Rep. Weaver said the plan to set up camp in Kewanee has begun and the Kewanee office ticks off one of his campaign promises.
“We’re very excited to be in Kewanee,” he said, adding that he looks forward to helping Kewanee residents with their needs.
His chief of staff will be available at the site Monday and Friday from noon until 4 pm. On every other Tuesday, the hours will be 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
“People can come to meet with us about their state-related issues,” Wheeler said. “If you just think we can help you, even if you don’t know, we can find someone who can.”

If your problem is a federal one, Wheeler said people are still welcome to come in and discuss the issue, and he can get in touch with US Rep. Eric Sorensen or US Rep. Darin LaHood.
The station office will be shared by State Sen. Neil Anderson, whose office hours will be on Wednesdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
“Constituent services are an incredibly important part of our job and with the size of the new 47th District, it’s important to have a location for area residents so they don’t have to drive hours to get the help they need from our office,” Sen. Anderson said in a press release.
Rep. Weaver, who represents the 93rd District, said the local office provides residents an opportunity for constituents to suggest improvements for the state or get help with state-related issues.
“My staff and I are eager to help in any way he can. We look forward to serving you,” said Rep. Weaver.
