Pretty as a picture, Hog Days building exterior gets a makeover

As well as gearing up for the 70th annual Kewanee Hog Days celebration, committee members have found some time to freshen up the outside of the building.

“We’re ordering buns and meat and charcoal and water and chips and spice powder for this year’s Labor Day weekend event” says festival co-chair Larry Flannery “but we noticed the front of the building was starting to look a little weathered.”

So, led by committee vice-chair Janie Metscaviz, old, faded mulch and weed barrier film were removed, some of the concrete pigs in front of the building were given a fresh coat of paint and the mulch was replaced with rock.

“We want the community to not only be proud of their annual Kewanee Hog Days but also of the building, fronting along the main thoroughfare through Kewanee,” said Flannery.

This year’s celebration is scheduled for Sept. 1-4.
