Kewanee police have been investigating a rash of break-ins to vehicles in recent days.
Deputy Police Chief Michael Minx said many of the thefts have been in the East Street and Maple Avenue area.
Officers are working now to identify the thief or thieves, Minx said.
He also offered some tips to prevent becoming a victim of a car break-in.
— Don’t leave your key fob in the car. If someone breaks into the car and the fob is in it, they can start the car and drive away. Always remove your keys and the fob from the car when you park it.
— Always lock the car if it’s parked outdoors, and even if it’s in a garage.
— Don’t leave packages in plain sight inside the car.
— Invest in a security camera and focus it on the place you ordinarily park your car.
— Leave exterior lights on in the area where your car is parked.
