The Kewanee Police are investigating the death of a man found lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound.
According to a news release, the KPD responded at approximately 7:31 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, to a report of a man lying in the roadway in the 100 block of Houle Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound and initiated life saving measures until paramedics from the Kewanee Fire Department arrived on the scene. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Now the police, along with assistance from various law enforcement agencies, have launched an investigation into the shooting and the area currently has a heightened police presence.
Police are urging the public to steer clear of the area and anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to reach out to police at (309) 853-1911.
